North Belfast Security Alert An Elaborate Hoax

A security alert in north Belfast today was an elaborate hoax.

Police were alerted after a suspicious object was found at a property on Upper Meadow Street on Monday.

Officers from the army bomb squad attended the scene and carried out a controlled explosion on the suspicious object.

After tests it was declared an elaborate hoax.

The area has been re-opened.

Lurgan Alert Declared 'Hoax'
A security alert in Co Armagh was this afternoon branded a hoax. A police spokeswoman confirmed that a suspicious object discovered this morning was "an elaborate hoax" and the alert is now ended. Earlier, the SDLP Upper Bann MLA Dolores Kelly said schoolgirls in Lurgan reported a suspicious object to her this morning.
