Three Arrested After Bomb Found Under Police Officer's Car In L'Derry
Garda have arrested three men after a viable device was found under a car parked outside a police officer's house in L'Derry.
The men were arrested in Co Donegal at around 4am on Thursday.
The vehicle they were travelling in is being examined and searches are being carried out in the area.
The device was found in Glenrandel at around 2.45am on Thursday morning.
Local District Commander Superintendent Mark McEwan said: "ATO were tasked to the scene during the early hours and have now declared this to be a viable device.
"We can confirm that this was an Under Vehicle Improvised Explosive Device capable of causing death or serious injury under the car of a serving police officer."
Alliance Policing Board member, Trevor Lunn MLA, said: "I am disgusted by those who have tried to take the life of a Police Officer. These terrorists have no place in our society and their actions must be condemned by everyone. They want to drag us back to the dark days of the Troubles.
"I would like to send my support to this officer. It must have been a terrifying ordeal to discover that they had been targeted in this way.
"The vast majority of people want to move forward and help build a shared future for everyone in our society."
