BCC gives deadline for culture and arts funding
Belfast City Council has announced deadlines for its culture and arts funding initiatives for the year ahead.
The funding, which assists professionally managed Belfast-based arts or heritage organizations to deliver an annual programme of activities, has a deadline of 21 November for those interested in the subsidy.
There will also be two deadlines for applications to the Council’s Culture and Arts Project Grant Scheme: Friday 16 January 2004 for events taking place from 1 April 2004 to 31 March 2005; and Friday 18 June 2004 for events taking place from 1 September 2004 to 31 March 2005. The Culture and Arts Grant Scheme assists the delivery of Belfast-based arts activities on a project basis.
Commenting on the funding, Councillor Naomi Long, Deputy Chair of the Development (Arts) Sub-Committee, said: “The Council is working on a three year plan to develop the cultural life of the city and to make Belfast a better, more enjoyable place to be, using culture and arts as a tool of regeneration.
"There is a great deal of creativity in this city – and we want to nurture that and build on the quality of the experience. We also want to ensure that more and more people get the chance to experience the enjoyment and fulfilment that culture and the arts can bring – whether that’s through getting involved in an arts workshop, going to the theatre, to a gallery, or finding out more about the history of our city”.
Annual Funding application forms were available from yesterday and can be obtained at www.belfastcity.gov.uk/arts or further information can be found by contacting the Culture and Arts Unit on 028 9027 0461.

The newest details of the L’Derry City of Culture events programme have been revealed by the Arts Council in Northern Ireland. The news follows an investment of £1m in 18 new arts projects.
