Belfast Festival To Go-Ahead Despite Funding Cuts
The Belfast Festival is to go-ahead despite loss of funding from its main sponsor Queen's University.
The festival has been renamed the 'Ulster Bank Belfast International Arts Festival' and will run from Friday 9 October to Sunday 1 November.
Festival Director Richard Wakely said: "I am delighted to be able to confirm that the Belfast Festival is very much alive and kicking and that the show must go on! With the generous support of our public and private sector funders and partners, we have come together to launch a new international festival that reflects both the changing city around us and the continuing evolution of creative practice from around the world.
"The Ulster Bank Belfast International Arts Festival will feature artists and performers from across the globe, bringing everything Belfast audiences have come to expect in recent years from the Festival and more: a world class programme of theatre, performance art, moving image, visual art, dance and music from folk, to contemporary and classical with opportunities for audiences to directly engage and participate in the creative arts."

Queen's Festival Announces New Director
The Belfast festival at Queen's has announced arts programmer and producer Richard Wakely as its new director. Mr Wakely is a former Managing Director of the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, while his role as Commissioner for the China-Ireland Cultural Exchange Programme for the Irish government saw him tour throughout Europe, the UK and South America.

Local Theatre Talent Set For Edinburgh Festival
Three local theatre groups are due to perform at the Edinburgh International Festival and Edinburgh Festival Fringe later this month. With the support of the Arts Council and British Council of Northern Ireland, the arts organisations will stage productions that showcase some of the best of local talent at the popular festivals.

Belfast International Arts Festival Launched
A celebration of home grown and world-renowned talent, the programme for the 57th Belfast International Arts Festival has been launched ahead of the opening event in October. Cuban-born Parisian musician, La Dame Blanche, will headline the festival with a performance at the Belfast Empire, and showcased her material at the launch at the Black Box.
