Drop In Number Of People Claiming Unemployment Benefits
The number of people claiming unemployment benefits in Northern Ireland dropped by 1,000 in August.
According to the latest Labour Force Survey (LFS) the measure of unemployment showed a slight increase over the quarter in July, however it fell over the year.
The long term unemployment rate was 58.0%, an increase of 6.1% on the previous year.
The proportion of people aged 16 to 64 in work decreased over the quarter and year to 67.8%.

The number of people unemployed in Northern Ireland has fallen for the second consecutive year. Newly-published figures by the Department of Trade and Enterprise revealed that in December 2014, the number of people claiming unemployment benefit in NI fell by 900 from the previous month, and now stands at 50,200.
