Communities Urged To Learn More About Belfast
Communities are being invited to learn more about the people and places that make up Belfast at free events celebrating the city's diversity.
To mark Community Relations Week and Cultural Awareness Week, which begins today with a theme of 'One Place, Many People', Belfast City Council has revealed details of its year-long ‘DiverseCity’ programme.
Amongst the free events on offer are a visit to the Belfast Islamic Centre (13 October), a 'Small Worlds' diversity day (24 November) and a Traveller awareness workshop (3 December).
Other upcoming activities include the chance to explore the headquarters of the Grand Orange Lodge, a session exploring the events of 1916, and a visit to the Jewish synagogue.
The first event - a Living Library, where lenders ‘borrow’ a person for a conversation about their background - took place last week, with the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Arder Carson, joining other participants to share his own story.
All of the events are free.
