Newlywed Couple Drown In South Africa

A Co Down couple drowned while they were on their honeymoon in South Africa.

John Rodgers, 28, and his wife Lynette, 26, died on Friday after getting caught in a rip tide at Plettenberg bay.

Their families said they have been left devastated.

In a statement their families said: "It has come as a great shock to both the Reilly and Rodgers families to learn of the sudden and tragic events in South Africa, which has taken the lives of Lynette and John.

"Our happiness in sharing their recent wedding has been thoroughly devastated. Both were very dearly loved and brought us great joy."

Lynette was from Holywood and John was from Ballygowan.

Their bodies will be returned to Northern Ireland later this week.

Bodies Of Co Down Couple Brought Home
The bodies of a Co Down couple who drowned while they were on their honeymoon in South Africa have been brought home. John Rodgers, 28, and his wife Lynette, 26, died last Friday after getting caught in a rip tide at Plettenberg bay. A joint funeral is to be held at First Holywood Presbyterian Church in Holywood on Monday, 02 November.

Funeral Of Couple Who Died In South Africa Takes Place
The funeral of a couple who died while they were on honeymoon in South Africa has taken place at a church in Holywood. Hundreds of mourners gathered at the funeral of John and Lynette Rogers at the First Holywood Presbyterian Church on Monday. The couple drowned after getting caught in a riptide at Plettenberg Bay on 23 October.

Ahern Meeting Shot Belfast Priest In South Africa
The Irish leader, Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is to travel to Atteridgeville Township, near Pretoria, to visit the Leratong Hospice - run by Fr Kieran Creagh from Belfast. He survived an attack last March when he was shot twice at an Aids hospice he founded in the township, west of Pretoria.

Four Arrested Following Disorder In South Belfast
Four men have been arrested following public disorder incidents in the university area of south Belfast on Thursday, November 14th. Police responded to a number of offences, including resisting and obstructing police, and assault on police. Three men, aged 18, 20, and 21, have been charged and are due to appear in court in December.

Traffic Warning For South Belfast Ahead Of Northern Ireland Match
Road users are advised to plan for potential traffic delays in the south Belfast area on Friday, 15th November due to the UEFA Nations League football match between Northern Ireland and Belarus. The match will take place at Windsor Park, kicking off at 7.45pm, and it is expected that around 18,000 supporters will attend.
