Europe To Abolish Roaming Charges For Mobiles
The European Parliament is to end roaming charges for the use of mobile phones abroad from 15 June 2017.
"This abolition of roaming surcharges has been long awaited by everybody: ordinary people, start-ups, SMEs and all kinds of organisations," said the rapporteur, Pilar del Castillo (EPP, ES), in the debate before the vote. "Thanks to this agreement, Europe will also become the only region in world which legally guarantees open internet and net neutrality. The principle of net neutrality will be applied directly in the 28 member states. It also ensures that we will not have a two-speed internet."

T-Mobile introduce flat rate for UK mobile users in the Republic
T-Mobile UK has today announced a new flat rate for mobile calls made from the Republic of Ireland for its contract customers in the UK. The new tariff will mean that customers of T-Mobile will now no longer face unpredictable costs and inadvertent roaming charges when in the Irish Republic or close to the border.

Second Lisbon Referendum Looms
The Irish Premier is expected to tell an EU summit in Brussels that a second Lisbon treaty vote will be taken by October. The Taoiseach, Brian Cowen, (pictured) has been touring Europe over the past two weeks, negotiating with Europe's leaders in an effort to secure a series of amendments to ensure a 'Yes' vote next year.

Vodafone Ireland scraps UK roaming charges
Vodafone Ireland has announced that from March 14, pay monthly contract customers visiting the UK or Northern Ireland will not be charged for "roaming," and it is hoped that Vodafone will extend this to their Northern Ireland customers.

O2 to reduce cross-border roaming charges
Mobile Phone Company O2 has today announced that it is to abolish roaming charges for mobile phone users living close to the border. This means that from April this year, the 1.6 million O2 customers can travel across the border without being charged more to make or receive calls.
