Belfast City Council Announce Free City Parking
Belfast City Council has announced that all of its car parks in the city will be free to use in evenings and at weekends in the run-up to Christmas.
From this Friday, 27 November, shoppers can take advantage of nearly 1,500 free parking spaces at 17 off-street car parks across the city.
The sites - which include Corporation Square, Cromac Street and Hope Street North in the city centre - will offer free parking after 6pm Monday to Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday.
A further 105 spaces are also being made available at the council's staff car park in Ormeau Avenue at weekends during the festive season.
The free parking offer will run until Sunday 3 January (inclusive) and cover Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
"Christmas is a key time for our retailers, restaurants, hotels and tourist attractions, and we want to do what we can to support our local businesses by increasing footfall into our city,” said Councillor Declan Boyle, Chair of the council's Strategic Policy and Resources Committee.
"This initiative will hopefully encourage visitors will stay on for longer and enjoy more of what Belfast has to offer this Christmas, whether they're shopping locally or travelling to the city from elsewhere.
"It's also good news for shoppers too, cutting costs at what is already an expensive time of year and coming into action just in time for the traditional start of late night shopping at the end of November.”
