Employment And Skills Event Officially Opens
An Employment and Skills event has officially opened at the Ulster University's Belfast campus.
The event features job and training opportunities created by the University's Belfast campus development. The project will see a majority of activities currently based at the Jordanstown campus relocate to a significantly expanded Belfast campus by 2018.
Employment and Learning Minister Stephen Farry said: "More than £250million will be invested in the development of the new campus, representing one of the largest development projects that the city has witnessed in recent years.
"The refreshed campus has the potential to generate many times this initial investment through the economic and regenerative boost that the 6,000 daily users of the site will bring to the local area and Belfast as a whole.
"In the longer term the creation of a modern University in the heart of the city has the potential to create large numbers of sustainable job opportunities around the new campus as the infrastructure and services needed to support an establishment of this size grow around it."
The Department for Employment and Learning is one of the key funders of the project, providing a grant of £16m towards the £250m overall project costs. The Department has also facilitated two Financial Transaction Capital loans totalling £73.5m.
