NIFRS Launches Recruitment Campaign
The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has launched a recruitment campaign for community (Part-Time) firefighters in four stations across Northern Ireland.
In Western Area Command NIFRS wants to recruit people who can respond to Belleek and Clogher Fire Stations within 5 minutes of being alerted by pager. At Portaferry and Carryduff Fire Stations in Southern Area Command, NIFRS is seeking to recruit people for new daytime contracts.
Gary Thompson, Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service explains: "Simply put, NIFRS could not operate without our Community Firefighters as they provide the emergency fire & rescue services to local towns and villages across Northern Ireland.
"It is an extremely rewarding and interesting job. Community Firefighters must be able to quickly respond to emergency call outs by making their way to the Fire Station within 5 minutes, where they will meet the rest of their crew.
"Community Firefighters are paid a retaining fee, emergency call out payments and a payment to attend a weekly drill night which is 2 hours per week in the evening. Community Firefighters are trained to the highest standards and take part in 12 days training each year to ensure we have the most highly skilled Firefighters to help protect our local communities."

Work Underway For Free Hospital Parking In Northern Ireland
Work has begun at several hospital sites across Northern Ireland as part of the preparations for the introduction of free car parking in May 2026. Health and Social Care Trusts have been actively preparing for the implementation of a new traffic management system since the Hospital Parking Charges Act was passed in 2022.
