Man And Woman Attacked In North Belfast

A man and woman have been attacked during an armed break-in at a property in north Belfast.

The men, armed with guns, forced their way into a house in the Cavehill Road area at around 11pm on Thursday.

The men stole a sum of money and fled on foot towards Indiana Avenue.

The woman is being treated in hospital after receiving injuries to her face.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Sinn Féin MLA Carál Ní Chuilín said: "These reports of a violent burglary in the Cavehill Road area last night are worrying and I'm appealing for anyone with information to come forward urgently.

"It's my understanding that in the course of this aggravated burglary violence was used and the PSNI are following lines of enquiry that the suspects were armed.

"Thankfully these types of crimes are rare but I would urge people to take sensible measures to secure your homes to reduce your chance of becoming a victim of burglary.

"We met with the PSNI in relation to crime in North Belfast as recently as this week and tackling the serious issue of burglaries was high on that agenda.

"My thoughts are with the victims of last night's disturbing incident who I wish a speedy recovery."

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
