Two Arrested After Arson Attack On GAA Club In Co Armagh
Two people have been arrested following an attempted burglary and arson attack at a GAA club in Lurgan, Co Armagh.
The incident in the North Street area was reported to police just before 5.40am on Thursday morning, 25 February.
Police and the emergency services attended the scene and it is believed the fire had been started deliberately.
The blaze caused damage to the roof and wall of the building.
Two men, aged 21 and 22, were arrested a short time later in the Victoria Place area.
They are both assisting police with their enquiries.
Sinn Féin councillor Catherine Seeley condemned the attack.
She said: "It is a relief no one was injured but it is a huge blow to those who volunteer their time every evening of the week to provide a facility for the community.
"It is also a blow for those young people training for competitions and for personal fitness in the club.
"The club is due to have some improvement work done over the next number of weeks and I will now be contacting the funders to ensure this project has not been jeopardised."

Fire brigade personnel were called to Mournview Park shortly after 6am on Monday to extinguish the blaze which is believed to have started following a possible petrol bomb attack. Pedestrian Injured In Belfast Hit-and-Run
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a hit-and-run incident in the Botanic Avenue area of Belfast in the early hours of Thursday morning. Officers were called to the scene shortly before 1.30am after a male pedestrian was struck by a maroon Mazda. Despite being injured, the pedestrian left the area before police arrived.

The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Police officers injured during rioting
Two police officers have been injured during rioting in Antrim on Sunday night. The two officers were injured when a petrol bomb was thrown during rioting in the Stiles estate in Antrim town at around 10pm. A 24-year-old man was arrested after order was eventually restored.
