Man Convicted Of Benefit Fraud
A man has been convicted for claiming benefits he was not entitled to at Belfast Magistrates' Court.
Patrick McDonagh from Belfast claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Rates Relief totalling £3,022 while failing to declare capital. He was given a two month prison sentence suspended for 18 months.
He is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
NI Exceeds Renewable Heat Target
Northern Ireland's renewable heat target of 4% has been exceeded with an estimated 6% of heat now being provided from renewable sources.
Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister Jonathan Bell hailed renewables in Northern Ireland as a "success story".
He said: "The Executive's Programme for Government targets for renewable electricity and renewable heat have both been exceeded. More than a quarter of our electricity now comes from renewables compared to 3% a decade ago."
The Minister confirmed that while schemes were closing for new applications, support for existing installations will continue for up to 20 years. He said: "This was a massive achievement for a region this size. It has reduced polluting carbon emissions, contributed to increased air quality and brought investment, jobs and skills to Northern Ireland."
Traffic Restrictions In Belfast For St Patrick's Day Parade
Traffic restrictions and diversions will operate in Belfast City Centre as the annual St Patrick's Day Carnival and Concert takes place on Thursday, 17 March.
Motorists can expect disruptions along the parade route, which includes Donegall Place; Royal Avenue; Donegall Street; Bridge Street; and High Street.
A series of rolling road closures will operate along the route from 11.30am-1.30pm. Traffic diversions will also be in place around Dunbar Link and Wellington Place during this time.
Drivers should be aware of large volumes of pedestrians in and around Custom House Square, Donegall Quay, and High Street area whilst the concert and family activities are taking place between 12pm and 3pm.
Translink will maintain city centre services throughout the day.
