Devenney To Stand As Independent Unionist For Foyle

Former DUP councillor Maurice Devenney has confirmed he is to stand as an Independent Unionist for Foyle in the Assembly elections on 05 May.

Mr Devenney resigned from the DUP in January after he was suspended over allegations he was canvassing for the SDLP in the Westminster election last May.

He denied the allegations.

In a statement Mr Devenney said he was overwhelmed by the number of people who have offered their support.

He said: "I will be providing an independent voice and offering to continue my lobbying and work on the ground that I already do as a councillor, albeit on a larger scale to a greater number of people."
