Pay Increase For Thousands Of NI Workers
The National Living Wage (NLW) which takes effect from today, 01 April, will see tens of thousands of workers in Northern Ireland receive a pay increase.
All workers aged 25 and over are now legally entitled to at least £7.20 per hour, a rise from £6.70.
According to the Nevin Economic Research Institute (NERI) the new minimum wage rate will amount to an automatic increase of 50p per hour for the coming financial year, and it is set to rise to £9 per hour by 2020. Overall 13% of workers in Northern Ireland would see an automatic increase in pay from today. However the lower age limit of 25 will exclude around 50,000 workers who will remain on the current minimum wage of £6.70 per hour until November. It also does not take into account those who are currently paid above £7.20 per hour who may see a knock-on increase in their wages.

Minister Reacts To Teachers' Union Ballot Threat
Education Minister Paul Givan has responded to the announcement by several teachers' unions that they plan to ballot their members for industrial action over 2024/25 pay. Earlier this year, the Minister provided funding to successfully resolve the long-running industrial dispute over teachers' pay for 2021-24.

On-Street Parking Charges To Increase
On-street parking in Belfast, Newry and Lisburn is to increase from February. Charges in Belfast City Centre will increase by 20p per hour from £1.20 to £1.40, while a number of streets on the edge of the city centre with a current charge of 80p per hour will increase to £1.20 per hour.
