Winners Of Apprentice Of The Year Announced
The 2016 winners of the Apprentice of the Year Awards have been announced at an event in Belfast's Titanic Building hosted by radio presenter, Pete Snodden.
Antrim's Lauren Gourley and Omagh's Emmet Lagan won the Apprentice of the Year and Higher Level Apprentice of the Year for 2016, respectively, at the annual Awards.
Ms Gourley, 20, is completing an Engineering apprenticeship at Larne Skill Development and is employed by Schlumberger, Monkstown.
30-year-old Mr Lagan, is completing an Engineering higher level apprenticeship at South West College, Omagh, and is employed by SSE.
Congratulating the winners, Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry said: "I congratulate Lauren and Emmet on winning their respective Apprentice and Higher Level Apprentice of the Year categories and all the other finalists here today on their achievements.
"I wish them continued success in their chosen careers. These Awards highlight how Apprenticeships and the new Higher Level Apprenticeships are supporting our local economy by ensuring our workforce is getting the skills needed and valued by local employers."
The joint winners of the Innovation in Partnership Award were Deloitte/Ulster University Business School and PwC/People 1st.
ApprenticeshipsNI is part funded by the European Social Fund.
The Apprentice of the Year Awards were part supported by City & Guilds and Fujitsu.

Modern Apprentice of the year named
A young ICT apprentice from West Belfast has been unveiled as the Modern Apprentice of the Year 2006. Gerard O Hara, an apprentice ICT manager at St Colm’s High School in the city, collected the award at a ceremony at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall.
