Ards Footballer Suffers Fractured Skull In Belfast Attack

Ards footballer Gary Warwick has sustained a fractured skull after being assaulted in Belfast.

The attack happened in the Patterson's Place area of Belfast in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The midfielder, 25, is currently being treated at the Royal Victoria Hospital.

Manager Niall Currie said: "We are all sickened to be honest. I would just like to say to this quality young man that all of us at Ards Football Club are thinking about him and I know I’ll be carrying the best wishes of all Ards supporters with me, when I visit him later today."

A 36-year-old man was arrested in connection with the attack, however he has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Defibrillator Stolen In Newtownards
An investigation has been launched into the theft of a defibrillator from outside a shop in Newtownards. The life-saving equipment was taken overnight from outside a Vivo store on Glenard Road. Posting to their Facebook page, PSNI Ards, said that they would be looking at CCTV in order to identify those involved.

Man And Woman 'Critical' Following Crash In Newtownards
Police are appealing for witnesses following a three-vehicle collision on the carriageway between Bangor and Newtownards on Thursday. The crash happened at around 7.40pm close to the junction of Green Road. A man and woman are in a critical condition in hospital' The road was closed in both directions however it has now been reopened.

Second Man Arrested In Connection With Ards Mosque Attack
PSNI detectives investigating the attempted arson of a mosque in Newtownards have arrested a second man. The attack occurred in Greenwell Street in the early hours of Saturday, 10 August. A 42-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, 11 August, in connection with the attack. He has since been released on police bail.

£20,000 in football game receipts stolen
An estimated £20,000 worth of takings was stolen last night during a Co Antrim Shield football fixture between Glentoran and Linfield at the Oval. County Antrim FA secretary Brian Dummigan and treasurer John Hamilton were robbed as they left the stadium in east Belfast shortly before the final whistle.
