PSNI reserves to be appointed
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is set to begin appointing candidates for the new Part-Time Reserve.
Up to 171 officers will be appointed in Banbridge, Newtownabbey, Coleraine and Lisburn District Command Units (DCU). However, unlike full-time posts, the new part-time reserve recruitment process will not entail the 50:50 religious count.
Commenting on the new reserves, Policing Board vice-chairman, Denis Bradley said the new officers would have an important part to play in delivering local community policing.
“Providing support in tackling crime, in partnership with the local community, the new officers will have an important role to play working alongside their colleagues,” Mr Bradley said.
”Through the DPPs, local people are working with the PSNI to help shape local policing priorities for their areas. The role of these officers is a community focused one and they will work to make a positive contribution to improving the safety and security of their community."
Up to 1,500 new part-time posts will be created over the next three years.
Speaking about future recruitment plans, the Vice Chairman said that whilst the Policing Board was pleased by the fact that so many people had come forward for these initial posts, the campaign needed to be evaluated before any future forward movement was decided.
