'Viable Device' Used In Cushendun Security Alert
A suspicious object at the centre of a security alert in Cushendun was a "viable device", the PSNI has said.
The device was discovered on the Glendun Road on Sunday morning. The road was closed for a number of hours while Army bomb disposal officers examined the scene.
The device was declared viable, disabled and removed for further forensic examination.
Oliver McMullan, a Sinn Féin MLA for East Antrim, said "there was no logic to this act".
"Cushendun is a quiet town which is however a popular visiting spot for tourists at this time of year travelling along the Antrim coastline," Mr McMullan said.
"For anyone to leave an explosive device on one of the main roads in and out of the town is sheer recklessness and shows absolute disregard for the residents of this town and passers-by."
Police have appealed to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity in and around the Glendun Road area of Cushendun to contact Police on the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Viable Device Found In Newry Had Detonated
A device found in Newry on Thursday had exploded, according to police. The device was discovered on the Barracric Road and a railway line between Newry and Dundalk was forced to close. It has since been re-opened. No damage was caused and there were no reports of any injuries. The device has been taken away by the police for further examination.
