Watermain Works Get Underway In Shaftesbury/Botanic Area
NI Water has begun essential works in the Shaftesbury/Botanic Area of Belfast as part of the ongoing Watermains Improvement Scheme in Central Belfast.
This work is part of a wider ongoing investment in the watermains infrastructure across Northern Ireland and is expected to be fully completed by Autumn 2016.
Works will be carried out this week, starting today, 16 May on Bradbury Place, Botanic Avenue and Donegall Pass.
Throughout the summer months, work will then continue on Great Victoria Street and the wider Shaftesbury area. Due to varying traffic management requirements, some sections of work will be completed at night in order to minimise disruption.
Traffic management and signage will be in place in all areas as necessary to inform the public in advance of the work. Appropriate measures will also be taken to ensure the safe passage of road users and pedestrians.
NI Water will work closely with Transport NI, PSNI, local traders and residents to ensure that disruption is kept to an absolute minimum during this essential work. We will also co-operate with Translink to ensure that public transport functions with minimum disruption throughout the project.
The public are advised to stay away from the working areas for their own safety and NI Water would appeal for the support of parents to keep children and young people safe by explaining to them the dangers of playing in or around construction sites. Playing near our works areas can have dangerous consequences and we would like to spread this safety message throughout the area while we complete this programme of work.

£1.37m School Improvement Works Successfully Complete
Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey has welcomed the completion of a £1.37 million programme of improvement works in 15 schools across Belfast. The funding of £1.37m from the Department for Communities has transformed the outdoor play areas, improved school facilities and enhanced the learning experience for children and young people.

Major Funding Boost For NI's Water Services
Funding of £344.5 million has been announced for essential water and sewerage services as part of the Department for Infrastructure 2021/22 budget. The Minister made the announcement during a visit to Derg Water Treatment Works where a major £12 million upgrade is about to get underway.

£10m Invested In NI Schools

Over £48m was invested in the schools estate under the minor works scheme in 2013. Throughout the year, the funding was allocated to minor works contracts across Northern Ireland, with £6m being invested in 62 contracts in December alone.
