USPCA condemns mutilation of two cats
The Ulster Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (USPCA) has condemned attacks on two cats in west Belfast over the weekend.
Both incidents occurred in the Woodvale area of the city. One cat suffered a severe leg wound after being shot with a crossbow, while the second was hit with a feathered dart.
One of the cats is currently being treated by a vet, however the second cat has proved elusive and is currently roaming the area injured.
USPCA chief executive Stephen Philpott said that such attacks were not new, as the association was having to deal with between 25-30 such incidents every year.

USPCA calls on Assembly to consider crossbow regulation
The USPCA has called on the Assembly to take action on the issue of crossbows following what the animal welfare organisation described as an "appalling" attack on a horse. The Clydesdale horse was found with a metal bolt lodged in its jaw, having been grazing on the Creggan estate when it was attacked.

Boy's ear bitten off in dog attack
A 12-year-old boy has lost part of his ear following an attack by a dog. The attack occurred in the Upper Stanfield Street area of the city. The dog has been destroyed and a spokesperson for the USPCA said that part of the boy's ear had been recovered from the animal's stomach by a veterinary surgeon.

Bull terrier attacks five people
A Staffordshire bull terrier has been destroyed after viciously attacking five people in North Belfast yesterday afternoon. The USPCA confirmed that the dog's owner had agreed for it to be put down after the incident, which resulted in a woman being bitten in the face.

USPCA reveal increase in animal cruelty
The Ulster Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (USPCA) has revealed that the number of acts of cruelty to animals in Northern Ireland is rising. The figures followed the news of the mutilation of a family's cat in north Belfast. The pet had all four of its leg's cut off and left in the driveway of the owner's home on Wednesday.
