Call For Workers At JTI Gallahers To Be Given Help To Find New Jobs
Workers who have lost their jobs at cigarette makers JTI Gallahers should be given help to find new employment, according to Sinn Féin.
Approximately 500 employees are to leave its plant in Ballymena, Co Antrim, today, 20 May.
MLA Daithí McKay said it is a "significant blow" to the local economy.
He said: "This is an area that has experienced a number of job losses in recent years.
"JTI Gallahers have given many reasons for these job losses but it is clear they are chasing cheaper wage bills.
"The staff who are leaving their jobs in Gallahers should be given every assistance in terms of retraining, reskilling and finding new employment."

Bangor Firm Creates 130 New Jobs
A total of 130 jobs have been created after a Bangor firm scooped a £19.5m PPE contract with Health and Social Care in Northern Ireland (HSCNI). The major new contract will see Denroy manufacture and supply FFP3 masks to HSCNI from its new manufacturing facility in Bangor.

NI firm Almac has announced a multimillion investment in Dundalk, Co Louth. The Craigavon based firm has secured new premises at IDA Business Park to support its ongoing global expansion plans in response to increased client demand. The firm will also create an additional 100 jobs within the first two years.

Fujitsu Plans To Axe 1,800 Jobs Across The UK
Japanese electronics firm Fujitsu has announced plans which could cut up to 1,800 jobs across the UK. The company currently employs 550 people in Belfast and 250 in L'Derry, and it is understood these workers may be affected. The plan would see employees being axed in 2017.
