Drop In NI House Prices
House prices in Northern Ireland have dropped, according to a new report.
Research by the Ulster University shows the overall average house price of £146,472 for the first quarter of 2016, lower than might have been expected based on the strong growth during 2015.
Produced in partnership with the Northern Ireland Housing Executive and Progressive Building Society, Ulster University's research points to an easing back of the average house price.
It highlights a 1.4 per cent weighted increase in average house price over the year however a 6.5 per cent weighted decrease over the quarter.
Lead researcher, Professor Stanley McGreal from Ulster University said: "The research statistics are reflective of mixed feelings by the sector across Northern Ireland with some estate agents attributing the apparent slowing in first quarter simply to a seasonal fluctuation, others attribute it to house buyers' concerns of economic uncertainty.
"When it comes to overall performance by property type, the average price of terraced/townhouses, detached bungalows and apartments have increased over the year. In contrast, semi-detached and detached houses have experienced a slower rate of annual growth. Over the quarter, all property types, with the exception of semi-detached bungalows, have suffered reduced price levels."
Man Convicted Of Benefit Fraud
A man has been convicted for claiming benefits he was not entitled to at Craigavon Crown Court.
Thomas Waite claimed Income Support and Employment and Support Allowance totalling £26,666 while failing to declare capital. He was given a nine months prison sentence suspended for three years.
He is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Department for Communities.
Craigavon Arson Attack Condemned
An arson attack on a car in Craigavon has been condemned.
Sinn Féin MLA John O'Dowd said: "This attack on a local business is totally unacceptable and anyone with information should bring it forward to the police.
"Central Craigavon has a successful business base and those who attack local businesses are putting local jobs and investment in jeopardy."

House Prices Rising, But Trend Still Down
There has been conflicting evidence on local property prices - which rose 1.6% during the past three months - but was still not enough to offset previous falls. Nationwide said of Northern Ireland "the annual rate of house price falls actually accelerated from 5.2% to 11.1%".

NI house prices continue to rise
The growth in house prices in Northern Ireland has accelerated, according to the latest University of Ulster Quarterly House Price Index. The survey for the quarter April to June 2004 revealed that the overall average price of residential property reached a new high of £112,806, up 4.7% on the first quarter of the year.

NI average house prices stay the same
Average house prices in Northern Ireland have remained static, according to latest figures released today. According to the latest Quarterly House Price Index in the final quarter of 2003, the annual rate of house price inflation stayed at a relatively modest 6.8%.

Northern Ireland house prices increased by 2.6% in the year to April 2014, according to the latest report from the Office for National Statistics. Although prices are rising again, the increase was still behind a 9.9% rise in the UK. House price annual inflation was 10.4% in England, 3.3% in Wales and 4.8% in Scotland.
