Hare coursing protest set for Dungannon
Protestors will call for an end to hare coursing later this week, when the League Against Cruel Sports brings its campaign to the streets of Dungannon.
The demonstration, to coincide with the main meeting of the Dungannon Coursing Club on Saturday October 25, will see Northern Ireland-based supporters of the League protest in Dungannon town centre against the coursing of the native Irish hare.
League Against Cruel Sports Chief Executive Douglas Batchelor said: “The latest poll shows that 74% of people across Northern Ireland want to see an end to hare coursing.
“By protesting in Dungannon on the day of the coursing club meet, we are letting those people who take part in this bloodsport know that their barbaric pastime must stop.”
The protesters will congregate at the war memorial in Dungannon town centre from 11am.

Four Arrested Following Disorder In South Belfast
Four men have been arrested following public disorder incidents in the university area of south Belfast on Thursday, November 14th. Police responded to a number of offences, including resisting and obstructing police, and assault on police. Three men, aged 18, 20, and 21, have been charged and are due to appear in court in December.

Minister imposes ban to protect the Irish hare
NIO Minister, Angela Smith today announced that she has decided to proceed with a temporary ban on the killing, taking, sale or purchase of Irish Hares. The ban, to be introduced by a special protection order under the Game Preservation Act (NI) 1928, will take effect from 19 January 2004 for a period of 12 months.

The League Against Cruel Sports has today launched a campaign to end coursing of the Irish hare in Northern Ireland. Launching the campaign at Malone House Barnett’s Demesne, Belfast, Chief Executive Douglas Batchelor said almost three-quarters of the people of Northern Ireland supported the move.

Fire In Dungannon Leaves Car 'Completely Gutted'
An investigation has launched after a fire in Dungannon left a car "completely gutted". Police received a report of a fire in the Old English Road shortly before 11pm on Tuesday, 13 April. The PSNI attended the scene and are working to establish the cause of the fire. Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.
