Pensioner foils attempted robbery

A pensioner was being treated in hospital today after foiling an attempted robbery in east Belfast.

The elderly man suffered an injury to his arm after restraining a man who was attempting to rob a security guard on the Belmont Road at around 10.30am on Thursday.

The pensioner was able to restrain the man until police arrived a short time later.

A firearm was recovered from the scene.

A pensioner has been left badly shaken after an attempted mugging in east Belfast. The incident happened on the Kings Road just before 1pm on Monday, 24 April. The man made off empty handed after the woman refused to let go of her bag. She suffered a bruised arm. The man is described as around 5ft 10inches and of slim build.

Man Charged With Attempted Murder
A 35-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder over an attack in Coleraine, Co L'Derry. The victim, aged in his 50s, is in a critical condition after being assaulted at a house on the Ballycastle Road on Monday, 26 September. The suspect is due to appear at Coleraine Magistrates' Court on Monday, 17 October.

Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Attempted Murder
A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder over an attack in Coleraine, Co L'Derry. A man, aged in his 50s, is in a critical condition in hospital after he was assaulted at a house on the Ballycastle Road on Monday, 26 September. Two other men were also arrested and have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
