Gobbins Cliff Path Closed After Rockfall

The Gobbins cliff path in Co Antrim has been closed for the second time this year.

The attraction shut on Monday, 20 June following an increase in recorded levels of natural rockfall, according to Mid and East Antrim Council.

In a statement, the council said: "As a coastal visitor experience exposed to the elements, The Gobbins will require ongoing routine maintenance involving scaling of the cliff face to mitigate the effects of coastal erosion on the path.

"A process of scaling has now been commenced and while this is ongoing, it would be unsafe for visitors to use the path.

"We expect this work to take two to three weeks to complete and this will reduce significantly any natural rock fall thereafter."

The Gobbins re-opened last year however it was forced to close temporarily due to storm damage.
