Police Clamp Down On Young Drivers Over Car Modifications
PSNI officers are clamping down on young drivers having their cars altered so they sit low to the ground.
Car modifications including cutting suspension could be deadly if the work is not done properly, according to the police.
Inspector Rosie Leech of PSNI Road Policing said: "It's a rite of passage for many young men and women to have their cars altered in such a way that they sit low to the ground.
"And we have no problem with that as long as it is done safely and within the limits of of what's legal.
"But a lot of these young people are doing the work themselves and the results are just not safe and therefore their are illegal.
"They cut the springs on the suspension and it can cause serious safety issues. If it's not done right there can be a very dangerous effect on the handling of the car.
"And in many situations it makes it very easy for the driver to lose control of the vehicle. If the car crashes down on the brow of a hill, cornering, hard breaking, it can all turn into a disaster very quickly.
"The results can be devastating and these drivers risk being involved in a fatal incident."
