Bank Of Ireland To Close Eight NI Branches
Concerns have been raised after the Bank of Ireland confirmed it is to close eight of its branches in Northern Ireland with the loss of 54 jobs.
The branches to close are in Antrim, Castlereagh, Draperstown, Belleek, Castlederg, Newtownards, Maghera and Donegall Square South, Belfast.
Alliance MLA Kellie Armstrong said the announcement is "worrying".
She said: "The issue of branch closures has affected many of banks in the past, but rather than assuming everyone will switch to online use we must look at other innovative solutions to providing services for customers.
"Bank of Ireland must listen to their customers as we cannot allow them - particularly those in rural areas - to be left feeling isolated from banking services. While the closures have been put down to an increase in online banking, for many this isn't an available option - and neither is travelling long distances to access branch facilities.
"With staff either being redeployed, transferred or able to apply for voluntary redundancy, either way it means a loss of jobs for many local areas."

Ulster Bank To Close Ten More Branches
Ulster Bank has announced that it is to close a further 10 branches across Northern Ireland. It follows news earlier in the month when the bank's chief executive in NI, said that more branch closures were "inevitable". The move has been blamed on changing customer behaviour, such as more people banking online.

Ulster Bank To Close 20 Branches
Ulster Bank is to close "in the region" of 20 branches in Ireland this year. The bank said more details on the closures would be provided to customers and employees within the next few weeks. The Irish Bank Officials' Association learned of the closures during a staff conference call last week.

'Economy Improving' Says Bank, Despite Downgrade
Ulster Bank has announced that improving exports and more consumer spending has led to an improving economy, despite yesterday's downgrading of Ireland's credit rating. Ulster Bank said today it was revising its forecasts for Irish economic growth in 2010 upwards, predicts average annual GDP growth of 1%, up from -0.5% previously.

Northern Bank posts record annual results
The annual results from the Northern Bank have revealed pre-tax profits of £111m up 13% on the previous corresponding year-end figures. The results include a £19.9m profit in relation to the disposal of subsidiary company Northern Bank Insurance Services to Wealth Management Europe Holdings another subsidiary of National Australia Bank.

A local bank is to double the number of its branch closures inside a year. The Northern Bank is shutting a further five branches in Northern Ireland in the next few months. Three of the doomed branches are in Belfast - located at Ballyhackamore, Castlereagh Road and Boucher Road - and two in rural areas - Garvagh and Aughnacloy.
