Man Charged In Connection With Human Trafficking

Police have charged a man as part of an investigation into human trafficking in Co L'Derry.

A 28-year-old man has been charged with rape and false imprisonment and is due to appear in court today, 26 July.

The suspect has also been accused of human trafficking into the UK for sexual exploitation, causing and inciting prostitution and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

An Easter European woman sustained several injuries following allegations of rape and assault.

She is being treated for her injuries and is also being assessed as a potential victim of human trafficking.

Detective Inspector Mark Bell, from PSNI Human Trafficking Unit, said: "These enquiries, including a search of a property in the city, are continuing as we work with partner agencies to ensure the woman receives all appropriate support and assistance."

Man Charged With Human Trafficking And Controlling Prostitution
Police have charged a 33-year-old man with human trafficking and controlling prostitution offences. The suspect was arrested in Belfast by detectives from the PSNI Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Unit as part of an operation on Wednesday, 20 June. He is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court today, 22 June.

Man Charged With Human Trafficking
A man has been charged with human trafficking and threats to kill. The charges relate to an incident in Craigavon in October last year, according to the police. No further details have been released. The 55-year-old suspect is due to appear before Craigavon Magistrates' Court today, 27 May.

Martin Heaney Jailed For Five Years
A 59-year-old man has been jailed for five years for a range of offences including human trafficking, controlling prostitution, and voyeurism. At Laganside Crown Court today, Wednesday 20 July, Martin Heaney was sentenced to five years imprisonment. A Sex Trafficking Prevention Order (STPO) was also issued and will be in place for 7 years.
