Call For Drivers Not To Flash Lights At Other Cars During PSNI Speed Checks
The PSNI are calling on motorists not to flash at other cars when they are carrying out speed checks as they may be warning drivers who are uninsured, disqualified or drivers of stolen cars.
Police in Castlereagh are urging the public to support them in a bid to catch motorists who may also be drink/drug drivers or using cars to commit a crime.
A PSNI spokesperson said: "Still on the subject of speeding/risking other people's lives, anyone who listens to their Uncle Hugo on the radio will be familiar with the song 'Flash the lights at me'… - 'use the code' you know the one... What we find is that, as soon as the speed laser comes out, everyone becomes very courteous to drivers coming the other way and gives them the 'slow down' flash.
"These very people who need caught, the ones who will not stop if they have an accident, have no insurance to claim from if they hit your car, maybe have someone else's TV in their boot - they're probably the ones who stand to benefit most from 'the code'."
A driver should only flash their headlights to let other road users know they are there, according to the Highway Code.
