Newcastle sewerage system set for upgrade
The Water Service is set to start work on the latest phase of a scheme to upgrade sewers in Co Down.
The work is part of an ongoing programme of improvements in Newcastle which has seen serious flooding in the past because of a poor sewage network.
Work in the town will begin on 10 November, and will necessitate some road closures, starting with a closure between Larchfield Park and the Bryansford Road for one week.
A Water Service spokesperson said: "We regret any inconvenience to road users during the work. This road closure is necessary to allow safe installation of pipes on Bryansford Avenue between Larchfield Park and the Bryansford Road roundabout. A temporary set of traffic lights will be erected on Bryansford Road to ensure a safe flow of traffic around the roundabout.
"Once this section is complete, the road closure will move from the roundabout up to the junction of Tollymore Road for a period of approximately six weeks. Motorists travelling along the Bryansford Road towards Newcastle will be diverted along the Tollymore Road and on to the Castlewellan Road. A temporary set of traffic lights will be installed at the narrow bridge at Wild Forest Lane to promote maximum safety and all diversions will be signposted."
The Water Service confirmed that road closures will be suspended over the Christmas holiday period.

Funding Restored For GCSE Aimed At Improving Road Safety
Infrastructure Minister John O'Dowd has reinstated funding to support a GCSE designed to improve road safety. The Minister has agreed to fund a scheme that supports the Motor Vehicle and Road User (MVRUS) GCSE, which targets young people who are sadly over-represented in road traffic fatalities and serious injuries.

Appeal Issued After Newry Burglary And Hit-And-Run Road Crash
Detectives have appealed for information for information following a report of a burglary and hit-and-run road traffic collision in Newry on Sunday morning, 23 June. Police received a report that a white BMW X5 was stolen outside a house in the Dublin Road area of Cloghoge.
