Ciaran Maxwell Charged With Terrorism Offences

A Royal Marine from Co Antrim has been charged with terrorism offences.

Ciaran Maxwell, 30, was arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police in Somerset last week following searches in Larne and Devon.

He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court charged with manufacturing explosives and constructing explosive devices in England and Northern Ireland.

He has also been charged with possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.

Between 1 November 2015 and 24 August 2016 he also had images of bank cards and associated CVC numbers, for use in connection with fraud.

Earlier this year, police uncovered a "significant terrorist hide" at Carnfunnock Country Park in March.

Explosives and bomb parts were also found in May at Capanagh Forest.
