Pupils Shaken After Ceiling Collapses At Primary School In Co Down
A number of pupils have been left shaken after a ceiling collapsed at a primary school in Killyleagh, Co Down.
The incident happened in Killyleagh Primary School at around 11am on Thursday, 29 September.
No pupils were injured however a number were left shaken.
It is believed to have been caused by damp from a leaking pipe.
Alliance Strangford MLA Kellie Armstrong said: "This could have been a horrendous incident that led to injuries or even worse if the collapse took place even a matter of inches from where it did. To think something like this happened while pupils sat underneath the ceiling doesn't bear thinking about.
"During my visit to Killyleagh Integrated Primary School last week, I was impressed by the family-like atmosphere amongst pupils and staff, and know they will resume the normal business of educating our young people as soon as possible.
"I understand staff at the school have been raising maintenance issues with the Education Authority for some time and hope this incident is a wake-up call for getting repairs carried out immediately, so there is no repeat."

Heavy Snow Closes Over 80 Schools
Over 80 schools across Northern Ireland have been closed as the heavy snow continues to cause disruption on Tuesday morning. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, as the snow is continuing to affect many roads. Areas which have been majorly disrupted include Lisburn, Castlereagh and Carryduff.

‘School Watch’ launched by primary school pupils
Children from Acorn Integrated Primary School in Carrickfergus have today helped launch a new initiative to protect school property from vandals. ‘School Watch’ has been developed by the Policing Board, PSNI and the Northern Ireland Office Community Safety Unit.

Two Major New School Construction Projects Underway
Two major school construction projects have gotten underway in L'Derry, Education Minister Michelle McIlveen has announced. The first sod has been cut on both the new £34 million Ardnashee School and College and the $4.7 million Our Lady of Fatima Primary School.
