PM's Pledge To End 'Witch-Hunt' Against Service Personnel Welcomed
DUP MLA Brenda Hale has welcomed the Prime Minister's pledge to end the 'witch-hunt' against service personnel on active service in conflicts.
She said: "As a nation we have a duty to stand behind those brave men and women who put their lives on the line in the service of their country. It must be made absolutely clear that British troops will still be subject to international law but this will close off one of the avenues used to pursue vexatious claims against service personnel.
"It is notable that many of the cases taken against soldiers in conflicts such as Iraq never even made it to court, but were based on unfounded claims. It is right that we take steps to make such attempts more difficult
"We are following a path that has also been followed by countries such as France in recent times and I welcome the clear statement made by the Prime Minister on this issue."
