Man Convicted Of Benefit Fraud
A man has been convicted for claiming benefits he was not entitled to at Omagh Magistrates' Court.
Thomas Reid claimed Jobseeker's Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £5,424 while failing to declare capital. He was given a one year conditional discharge.
Mr Reid has repaid in full all money wrongfully obtained to the Department for Communities.
Sewerage Network In Armagh To Be Upgraded
Construction work is to begin to improve the sewerage network in Armagh on Monday, 17 October.
The work will start on Railway Street and progress towards Lower English Sreet.
Traffic management arrangements will be in place and traffic travelling from Lower English Street towards Lonsdale Road will be diverted via Banbrook Hill. The current permanent one way system on Banbrook Hill (southbound) will be reversed during the works.
Call For One Hour Train Service From L'Derry To Belfast
SDLP Group Leader on Derry City & Strabane District Councillor Martin Reilly has called on the Executive to prioritise funding for the delivery of a one-hour train service from L'Derry to Belfast in the upcoming Programme for Government.
Mr Reilly said: "In recent days we have seen the welcome news of funding for the Waterside Transport Hub incorporating the regeneration of the old Waterside railway station.
"Over recent years we have seen the investment in the improvement of the railway track serving the North West. But we now need to see a firm commitment from the Executive to provide Translink with the money to deliver a one-hour service for commuters on the Derry to Belfast line.
"My party colleague Gerry Mullan MLA has tabled a number of Assembly Questions on this matter. The current travel time for this journey is 2hrs 15 mins and while the welcome passing loop at Bellerena adds robustness to the timetable the Department for Infrastructure themselves say that reductions in journey time at this stage will be marginal.
"I am therefore calling on the Executive to make this a priority through the Programme for Government and to find the funding for Translink to deliver this one-hour service."

The Department for Communities 'Make The Call' service – which helps people access entitlements they have not been claiming – has generated £50 million in additional benefits over the last year. Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey welcomed the 'Make the Call' results which saw nearly 11,000 people become, on average, £88 a week better off. The £49.

£2.4m Funding For Portadown Railway Station
£2.4m funding has been secured for the redevelopment of Portadown Railway Station. Transport Minister Danny Kennedy secured the European Regional Development funding of £2.44m, which will go towards the £3.6m cost of the project.
