Special Guests For Belfast Christmas Lights Switch On Announced

Lily of Lily's Driftwood Bay and the Clangers have been announced as special guests, invited to help the Lord Mayor switch on the Christmas Lights in Belfast on Saturday, 19 November.

The special announcement was made today, 26 October, with free tickets for the top family event available from Visit Belfast Welcome Centre or by booking online at 9.30am from Thursday, 03 November.

Lily will join Tiny and Small from the Clangers and a choir from Springfield Primary School on stage from 6.30pm to 7.15pm. Joining the festive line-up are the Cool FM Breakfast team – Pete Snodden, Rebecca McKinney and Paulo Ross – who will be compèring the event.

Speaking at the launch today, Lord Mayor Alderman Brian Kingston said: "We have such a great line-up of family entertainment this year and it promises to be a great night for everyone to enjoy the official start to Christmas. As the Belfast Christmas Market opens at 12 noon on the same day, Saturday 19 November will be a great day out in Belfast for the young and the young at heart."

£15m Funding Secured For Structural Roads Maintenance

Infrastructure Minister Chris Hazzard has confirmed £15 million is to be invested in structural roads maintenance in Northern Ireland.

The investment is part of the October Monitoring round.

Sinn Féin MLA Declan McAleer said it is a welcome addition to the road network.

He said: "I welcome the investment of £15 million for structural roads maintenance as part of the October monitoring round.

"This investment will help improve the road infrastructure network and road safety across the North."

Witnesses Sought To Fatal Collision In Co Antrim

The PSNI have issued an appeal for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in County Antrim.

A man in his 20s died when the car he was driving collided with a lorry shortly before 8.30pm on the Ballyutoag Road on Tuesday, 25 October.

It is understood that the lorry driver was not seriously injured.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact police.

Local roads get record £80m spend
A record £80 million will be spent on structural roads maintenance this year across Northern Ireland. The figure was revealed by Deputy Divisional Roads Manager, Tom McCourt as he presented DRD Roads Service’s autumn report to Newtownabbey Borough Council. West Tyrone MLA Joe Byrne was speaking after this week's news that the Northern Ireland Executive had received an extra £22m from the Treasury.

Two Decades To 'Right Roads'
There has been a warning that it might take as long as 20 years to clear an alleged backlog of underfunding and get NI roadways 'fit for purpose'.
