Bombardier To Bring Forward 1,080 Redundancies
Aerospace firm Bombardier is bringing forward 1,080 redundancies it had planned to make in 2017, according to Unite the union.
The announcement means around 200 more workers will receive redundancy in the coming months.
Unite Regional Coordinating Officer Davy Thompson said: "This decision has been made against a backdrop where the company’s corporate management are seeking an additional 7,500 job-losses globally. While we are disappointed at the news we recognise that it reflects the desire of local management to sustain more operations in Belfast for the long-term.
"Unite will continue working with management with the aim of securing jobs and defending terms and conditions."
Mr Thompson also called on the UK Government to provide additional support for the workers affected.

Bombardier workers in Northern Ireland have rejected a pay offer. The employees had been asked to take a two year pay freeze and work for an extra hour every Friday. 88% of Unite members rejected the proposal.
