Resurfacing Scheme For Mersey Street

A resurfacing scheme for Mersey Street, Belfast, is to commence next week.

The carriageway and footway resurfacing will take place from Dee Street to Yukon Street in the city. Work is expected to be completed before the end of January 2017.

The £180,000 scheme will be carried out in two phases; from Monday, 07 November, footway resurfacing will be undertaken using temporary traffic lights on weekdays only from 9am to 4.30pm. These arrangements will be in place until Friday, 23 December.

Final carriageway resurfacing is then expected to be carried out over one week in January 2017. This will be achieved by using road closures. A diversion route will be in place.

Infrastructure Minister Chris Hazzard said: "This significant investment of around £180,000 will greatly improve the surface quality of the footways and carriageway on this section of the road."

Minister Congratulates Libraries NI & BBC NI On Book Week Programme

Communities Minister Paul Givan has congratulated Libraries NI and BBC NI on the completion of their joint Book Week programme.

One of the key messages of the initiative is that books and reading are for everyone.

Mr Givan said: "Book Week NI is the first of a range of initiatives and activities that Libraries NI and BBC NI will be jointly taking forward over the next few years to support literacy and learning opportunities across the community.

"Literacy and learning skills are vital to improving the confidence and capability of individuals and the delivery of thriving and successful communities."
