£1.75m Social Housing Development Opens In Coleraine

A £1.75 million social housing development has officially opened in Coleraine.

The site at Lisnablagh Road in Harpurs Hill was supported by NI Executive, through the Department for Communities through a Housing Executive Housing Association £925,000 grant. The remaining funding was provided through private finance secured by Triangle Housing Association.

The scheme was designed by RPP Architects and construction work was carried out by contractor MJ McBride Construction.

Communities Minister Paul Givan said: "The provision of this housing development is the result of much hard work and determination from all parties including Triangle Housing Association, the Northern Ireland Housing Executive and Cross Glebe Community Association. I congratulate Triangle for once again providing high quality homes which the residents I have spoken to are extremely pleased and proud to live in."

Sinn Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald has welcomed the opening of 20 new social homes in the Harpur's Hill area of Coleraine.

She said: "The new housing development in Harpurs Hill is to be welcomed and will provide people in the area with modern and high-quality homes.

Minister Called To Reveal How Many Staff Were Manning Cameras During Gridlock

Alliance Infrastructure spokesperson Kellie Armstrong MLA has asked the Minister to reveal how many staff were manning cameras controlling the traffic flow through Belfast as the city saw gridlock on Tuesday evening, 15 November.

The city saw several bottlenecks after a lorry shed its load on the Westlink. It was compounded by a Northern Ireland game taking place at Windsor Park, filming in the city centre and singer Rod Stewart performing at the SSE Arena. Huge traffic delays were seen in the city centre, M2 and M3.

She said: "Once again we have seen commuter chaos following what in most other cities would be an incident that would be cleared and removed, with traffic returning to normal soon after. However, Belfast ground to a halt once more.

"This calls into question the ability of the Minister and his Department to not only manage emergency situations but plan strategically for such instances. I have therefore asked the Minister how many operators were manning cameras controlling traffic flow during this incident."
