Sinn Féin Nominates New MLA For West Belfast
Sinn Féin has nominated Órlaithí Flynn to become the new MLA for west Belfast.
She has been nominated to be co-opted in place of Jennifer McCann.
Ms McCann is to take up a new post as the party's advisor to the Health Minister.
Her nomination will now go to the party's Ard Chomhairle for ratification.
Ms Flynn said: "I am honoured and privileged to have been nominated by Sinn Féin in West Belfast for co-option to the Assembly to represent the people of the Colin area.
"I would like to pay tribute to my friend and colleague Jennifer McCann as she steps down as MLA and moves on to another important role within the party. She has been and continues to be an inspiration to me and to many others.
"Sinn Féin's delivery is evident throughout the Colin area; from the Brooke Leisure Centre, the Colin Glen Forest Park, the investment in the Urban Village project, and the excitement of the Belfast Rapid Transit initiative.
"All of these projects and much more, can and will be delivered on because of the leadership shown by team Sinn Féin right across the West Belfast Constituency.
"I am proud to be part of that new generation of republicans, benefitting from the huge progress already made towards our goals and objectives, and determined to complete the job of reuniting our country and building a New Ireland."
