New Sunday Opening Hours at Recycling Centres
A vote to introduce Sunday opening at recycling centres in Antrim has been passed by the council.
The move comes only weeks after Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council backed Alliance Councillor Neil Kelly's motion to secure extended Sunday opening hours at the Antrim Forum.
Mr Kelly said: "When Antrim and Newtownabbey Councils merged in May 2015, I believed it would be vital to secure equality of access to leisure and recycling amenities across the new borough," he said.
"This is why I made these pledges as part of my election campaign and I am delighted, in spite of some initial opposition two years ago, I have been able to steer the issue through.
"It would have been unfair and ridiculous to continue treating both sides of the borough differently on a Sunday. Whilst Newtownabbey recycling centres have been open on Sundays for quite some time, Antrim residents have never been afforded the same opportunity. This decision is therefore great news for residents across the new borough who will have the same access to recycling centres between 12pm-5pm on Sundays."
Work Starts On Drumaness Resurfacing Scheme
Work has begun on a resurfacing scheme in Drumaness, Co Down.
The project, which is located on the Drumaness Road, involved the resurfacing of a 1.6 kilometre stretch of the A24 Drumaness Road from a point 120 metres north of the Drumaness Road junction to a point 1,720 metres north of the same junction.
To facilitate the work, a temporary 40 mph speed limit and a prohibition on overtaking has been implemented until Friday, 17 February.
Man Convicted Of Benefit Fraud
A man has convicted for claiming benefits he was not entitled to at Belfast Magistrates Court.
Noel Graydon claimed Jobseeker's Allowance totalling £6,043 while failing to declare a pension. He was given a two year conditional discharge.
He is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Department for Communities.
