Call For Political Unionism To Change
Sinn Féin MLA Barry McElduff has said political unionism needs to change its approach to the Irish language and identity.
The West Tyrone MLA said: "There is a clear and growing public anger over the disrespect shown to the Irish language and identity by the DUP and others within political unionism.
"Their continued denial of an Irish language act, the waste of public money to rename a fisheries patrol vessel and offensive and disparaging remarks about the language cannot be tolerated.
"And the fact that Peter Weir, while in office as Education Minister turned down six out of seven development proposals relating to Irish medium education compounds that.
"Demonstrations on the streets across the north shows that people are angry at this disrespect towards the Irish language and identity."
