Nearly 200 jobs to go at Co Down textile firm
Nearly 200 jobs are set to go today with the closure of a yarn firm in Co Down.
Saintfield Yarns announced on Thursday that its was closing its plant because of the withdrawal of credit insurance from a leading supplier, which had guaranteed that bills were paid.
The entire 189 workforce will be made redundant of Friday as a result of the decision.
Thursday's news was a further blow to the textile's industry in Co Down which recently saw the closure of two Carpet International plants, in Killinchy and Donaghadee, with the loss of 160 jobs.

Childcare Providers Support Scheme Extended Until 31 March
Education Minister, Michelle McIlveen has announced that the Covid-19 Childcare Temporary Closure Fund has been extended until 31 March 2022. The fund will provide continued support for childcare providers who have been forced to close temporarily due to a Covid-19 related incident within their provision.

Two Covid-19 childcare support funds are to be extended, Education Minister Michelle McIlveen has announced. This includes a third phase of the Childcare Sustainability Fund for the period 1 April to 30 June 2021 and the Childcare Covid-19 Temporary Closure Fund from 1 April to 30 September 2021.
