Man Injured In Paramilitary-Style Attack In Co Down

A 23-year-old man has been injured in a paramilitary-style attack in Newtownards, Co Down.

The shooting happened in the West Winds estate in the Dakota Avenue area on Wednesday night, 05 April.

The victim was shot in the elbows, knees and ankles.

He was taken to hospital to be treated, however his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Strangford Alliance MLA Kellie Armstrong condemned the attack.

She said: "I have been working lately with residents in the area who are concerned about the rise of paramilitary activity in West Winds and other estates. This includes unwelcome displays of paramilitary paraphernalia on Housing Executive and social housing property.

"Police, political parties and community representatives must come together and work with all appropriate agencies to remove such intimidation from the community and ensure the atmosphere which fosters these sorts of attacks is removed.

"I would encourage anyone with information on this incident to contact police immediately."
