Three Officers Injured In Carrickfergus Attack

Three police officers have been injured in an attack in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim.

The PSNI received reports of two men fighting in the Victoria Road area just after 7pm on Tuesday, 25 April.

One officer sustained a broken ankle, another was punched in the face and the other officer received cuts and bruises to his face and body.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of several offences inkling assault on police and criminal damage.

He has been detained in police custody.

Alliance East Antrim MLA Stewart Dickson said: "This was an extremely concerning and appalling incident which must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

"Police do a fantastic job keeping the community safe in sometimes particularly challenging circumstances, even without attacks such as these. To add to that burden by assaulting these officers is disgusting.

"My thoughts are with the officers concerned and I would urge anyone with information on this incident to pass it to police immediately."
