School Principals Prepared To 'Go Into The Red'
A number of principals from schools across Northern Ireland have said they are prepared to go into deficit to ensure the education of their pupils.
The headteachers have signed a letter to the Secretary of State, James Brokenshire, stating that they will not implement a proposed 2.5% cuts to their budgets and that they are prepared to "go into the red".
It is understood the group of principals have also written to parents seeking their support and have appealed to the Education Authority for its backing.

Pharmacist Sentenced For Drug Offences
A 27-year-old pharmacist from Belfast has been sentenced to 180 hours of community service for unlawfully possessing and stealing controlled prescription drugs. Adam Hanna pleaded guilty to charges under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and the Theft Act 1969. The offences took place at a North Belfast pharmacy between January and March 2024.

Heavy Snow Closes Over 80 Schools
Over 80 schools across Northern Ireland have been closed as the heavy snow continues to cause disruption on Tuesday morning. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, as the snow is continuing to affect many roads. Areas which have been majorly disrupted include Lisburn, Castlereagh and Carryduff.

58% Of NI Principals Prepared To Strike
More than half of school principals in Northern Ireland are prepared to take strike action, it has emerged. Some 57.8% told the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) they would strike over the ongoing dispute on workload, the inspection process, consultation and support for schools.

A leading NI teachers' union has revealed that stress levels for teachers in the Catholic maintained sector are now severe. Things are said to be so bad in local schools that a total of 75 teachers, principals and vice principals in Catholic schools were referred to psychiatric health experts because of concerns about their attendance.
