Lisburn Man Becomes First Optometrist In NI To Achieve Doctorate Of Optometry
A man from Lisburn has become the first optometrist in Northern Ireland to achieve a Doctorate in Optometry.
Dr Colum Rooney, who has a practice in Hillsborough and another in Lisburn, received his Doctorate from Aston University in Birmingham, after completing five years of post-graduate study.
He was also the first person to complete the independent prescribing qualification in NI.
Dr Rooney's thesis was on the early detection of glaucoma, which can lead to the loss of vision, however the outlook is better the earlier it is diagnosed and treated.
