Conservatives To Form Govt With DUP
The DUP is to support the formation of a new Conservative government.
The Conservatives failed to win the required number of seats in the general election, finishing with 318. In the UKs First Past The Post system, 326 seats were needed to win.
However, following a meeting with the Queen, Theresa May has said that she will join "friends and allies" in the DUP, who took 10 seats, to form a new government.
In a statement given outside Downing Street, Mrs May said that the two parties had enjoyed "a strong relationship over many years" and that this has given her "the confidence to believe that we will be able to work together in the interests of the whole United Kingdom."
However, despite the Conservative and DUP alliance resulting in 329 seats, it is still less of a majority than Mrs May had before she called the election.
It is not yet clear what the terms of any agreement between the Conservatives and the DUP will be, with discussions between the two parties understood to be "ongoing".
Other results saw Labour take 261 seats, the SNP 35, the Liberal Democrats 12 and the DUP 10.

Arlene Foster Nominated To Be New DUP Leader
Arlene Foster has been nominated to be the new DUP leader after Peter Robinson announced in November he is to step down. DUP deputy leader Nigel Dodds has also confirmed he will not put his name forward for the position as he is not a member of the Stormont Assembly.

DUP To Continue Talks With Conservatives
DUP leader Arlene Foster is to continue discussions with the Conservatives in London today, 14 June. Mrs Foster said she hoped an agreement would be reached today. Speaking after a meeting with Prime Minister Theresa May on Tuesday, 13 June, Mrs Foster said Brexit, counter-terrorism, taxation and the economy have been discussed.

Hay Re-Appointed Assembly Speaker
One of the first decisions of the newly elected Stormont Assembly when it took its seats today has been to appoint the Speaker. The DUP's William Hay (pictured) has been returned to the post after he was proposed by the Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness, and seconded by the First Minister Peter Robinson.
