Six escape unharmed during attempted robbery

Six people have escaped injury after a shot was fired during an attempted robbery at a restaurant in south Belfast last night.

Two men entered the premises on the Lisburn Road shortly before midnight on Tuesday and demanded money from staff. One of the robbers then fired a blank cartridge into the ceiling before leaving empty-handed.

Police have appealed for information about the attack to contact them.

Elsewhere, two men have been injured in separate paramilitary-style attacks in Belfast and Newtownabbey.

In the first incident a man was attacked in the Rathcoole area of Newtownabbey at about 7pm on Tuesday. In the second attack a 19-year-old man was shot in the legs during an attack in the Strandtown area of east Belfast at around 9pm.

He was later treated in hospital for his wounds.

Man Arrested After Shots Fired At Police Vehicles
A 53-year-old man has been arrested over a gun attack on police on 5 December 2013. The man was arrested on Tuesday morning in north Belfast. Three police vehicles were shot at on the Crumlin Road during the attack. No one was injured. The man is currently being detained for questioning at Antrim police station.

Police Appeal After Shots Fired At Car In L'Derry
Police are appealing for information after shots were fired at a parked car in Dungiven, L'Derry. The attack happened just after 10pm on Monday in the Hass Park area. According to police, a man wearing a hooded top fired two shots at the parked car, which was empty at the time of the incident.

Man Shot In The Legs In North Belfast
A man has been shot in the legs in north Belfast. The paramilitary-style attack happened in the Jamaica Street area on Sunday, 25 June. The man was taken to hospital, however his injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
